Building up my cardio system and strengthening the legs for the climb, is exactly what I should be focusing on right now but with a distinct lack of hills in this area, uphill walking is a challenge to achieve. That's why I really am so very grateful to John Stocker and the support at Evolve Gym for allowing me to use the treadmills. It gives me the opportunity to work on uphill walking, easily.
Historically, I've always hated gyms. I've found them to be intimidating, soul less places, full of super fit types who spend more time staring at themselves in the mirror than actually doing any work, and then there's the struggle to get on the machine you want.
I don't find this to be the case at Evolve. It's housed in a really nice, spacious unit next door to the Post Office Depot down Murdock Road. The sense of space really appeals to me. It's light, bright and it doesn't ever feel as if people are squashed in next to each other. I don't know about you, but I need some space around me (literally at all times) when I'm working up into a sweaty mess. There are also plenty of machines and I've never struggled to get on a treadmill.
The staff there are all seem very friendly, approachable, and supportive. They run a load of different classes including Yoga, Body Pump, Spinning, Circuits and even Ladies Marshall Arts and Karate Classes for children. There is also personal training available for those who want it.
I'm not sure what the monthly cost is, but there is no joining fee, no contracts and you pay by standing order giving you complete control over the payments. There's a real family feel to the place and it does seem to be a gym for all, not just the super fit. I really like it, and mostly because nobody has fallen over laughing at me yet!
